On fashion’s biggest night, the 52-year-old singer-songwriter and coach on The voice drew attention to the iconic staircase at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as she stepped out at the 2022 Met Gala in a neon green bra and skirt with waist-defining floral ruffles, accessory with long matching gloves.
The strapless sweetheart neckline and voluminous skirt were reminiscent of the Vera Wang wedding dress Stefani wore to marry Blake Shelton last July — and the fashion designer even had a special connection to the No Doubt rocker’s presence at the Met Gala this year. year.
“Vera called me to see if I wanted to be her date and of course I wanted to. On her first trip to the Met Gala since 2019, the star said she even enjoyed getting ready.
“I feel like I’ve already done the fun part, which is getting everything ready. That’s always my favorite thing. Stefani kept her glamor slick for the bright look, sporting her straight hair parted in the middle of her shoulders – and even did her makeup herself!
While style viewers might hardly believe her luscious lashes and pink lips weren’t worked by the hands of a pro, the founder of GXVE Beauty revealed why she was forced to step up to the vanity at the last minute.
“Honestly, I had a crazy day because I was supposed to be working with a new makeup artist…and she had an emergency and she had to leave, so I had to do my own makeup!” explained Stefani. “I had a lot of fun doing it today and it was stressful too, but in a good way. I thought, ‘Okay, I’ve got this.'”

Stefani made her final Met Gala appearance when organizers chose the theme “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” and she went full bling in a white satin Moschino by Jeremy Scott bustier bodysuit with tons of Effy gems, plus a white marabou coat. embellished with “Gwen,” a Christian Louboutin necklace and heels.

When her now-husband didn’t join her to the star-studded soirée in 2019, Stefani teased that fans shouldn’t be seeing him on Met Monday anytime soon.

The love story of the stars began on the set of The voice in 2015, where the couple bonded over recent heartbreak and their breakups – Miranda Lambert’s Shelton and Gavin Rossdale’s Stefani. At the time, Stefani said she was “not trying to start a relationship,” but that it was “unbelievable that God would put us in a position to have each other at that exact moment, at the exact same time.”
In November 2015, the two were officially dating when a Shelton representative confirmed the news with PEOPLE. And in 2016, the pair walked as a couple on their first red carpets.
The couple became engaged and tied the knot at Shelton’s Oklahoma ranch in July 2021.
“I honestly think, looking back, under the circumstances when Gwen and I fell in love and got together, that was the proof I needed,” Shelton said at this year’s Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. “She has such a strong faith in God.”
“Just watching her and learning from her and learning how she thinks and how she treats people and how she just operates in her life, of course I start to see the God in everything because she does,” he added.
