LIVE – Eurovision 2022: The delusional performance of the Moldovans inflames Turin

The Moldovan band turns on the stage

Zdob și Zdub & Advahov Brothers, the Moldovan group, is one of the surprises of this 66th edition of Eurovision. While the bettors expected an elimination in the first semifinal, they managed to qualify. And their eccentric side undoubtedly served them: their piece, including rap, accordion and wild dance, was accompanied by loud applause in the hall.

The colors of the Ukrainian flag appeared briefly

The performance of the Ukrainians of the Kalush Orchestra ended in a flash of blue then yellow, the colors of their flag. The participation of the group in the competition took place under particular conditions: since February Europe has been living at the pace of the violent Russian offensive against Ukraine.

On stage comes the Ukrainian group, a great favorite of the competition

This is undoubtedly the most anticipated performance of the evening. The Ukrainians of the Kalush Orchestra, big favorites of the competition, who had to obtain special authorization to leave their country at war and perform, also interpret their song.

The Italian Mahmood returns, three years after his first participation

Mahmood finished second at Eurovision in 2019 with his song Money. Represent your country again tonight with Chillsin duet with his compatriot Blanco.

Roselyne Bachelot sends her support to Alvan & Ahez

The French representatives of Eurovision 2022 received the support of Roselyne Bachelot. On Twitter, the Minister of Culture of the Castex government expressed her enthusiasm after their performance: “It was great! We are with you.”

Around France!

Alvan & Ahez are the sixth to perform on the stage of the Eurovision 2022 final. The French group interprets its title in Breton, Fulenn, against the backdrop of a fireworks display. Is the loud applause of the audience a good sign?

Do you remember them?

The face of the lead singer of the group representing Finland is probably familiar to you. And for good reason: it is The Rasmus group, which achieved international success in 2003 with the song In The Shadows. They return to the Eurovision scene with “Jezebel”.

Who will present this 66th edition of Eurovision?

This year Laura Pausini, the singer Mika and Alessandro Cattelan, an Italian TV personality, will host the show on the stage of the PalaOlimpico in Turin. Commentaries in French will be provided by Stéphane Bern and Laurence Boccolini.

Who are the 25 countries in the running?

A total of 25 countries will compete on Saturday night. Twenty of them were selected during two semifinals, Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12 May. Added to this list are the Big Five, the biggest financial contributors to the competition, who automatically qualify. These are France, Spain, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom.

How to watch the final?

The evening is broadcast live on France 2 from 21:00 and conducted by Stefano Bernwho presented the evening for the first time in 2010, and Laurence Boccolini, who for the second consecutive year comments on the Eurovision Song Contest.

The official Eurovision YouTube account also broadcasts the ceremony presented in Turin by Mika and Laura Pausini, of the PalaOlimpico.

What is the running order of the candidates?

Less trivial than it seems, the order of passage during the evening can play a role in the final standings.

The Czech Republic is opening the ball tonight, with Lights off, played by We are Domi. The French move to sixth position and the Ukrainians to twelfth position.

Who are the favorites, a few hours before the final?

If this year Ukraine dominates the forecasts, other candidates occupy the podium of the bookmakers, certainly far behind.

Sweden and Great Britain are vying for second place. A great revenge for the British, last in Eurovision in 2021 and represented this year by Sam Ryder.

Italy follows with Mahmood & Blanco and Spain with Chanel.

We are never safe from a nice surprise, but the French are far in the charts, with their song Fulenn.

Alvan and Ahez represent France

“Adrenaline takes precedence over stress,” Frenchmen Alvan and Ahez told us Thursday. If the candidates, who sing in Breton, have the heavy task of succeeding Barbara Pravi, who last year offered France a second place in Rotterdam, they take this participation with philosophy.

They prefer “not to think about the ranking” and assure: “it’s not fear, it’s kiff”.

The Ukrainians, big favorites

One wonders if they haven’t already won. The Kalush Orchestra group, which represents Ukraine at Eurovision this year, has a 60% chance of winning, according to bookmakers’ forecasts.

They interpret Stefaniawritten by the group leader in homage to the mother, and has become a real hymn to the motherland.

Their popularity is such that they have been treated to a true “standing ovation” for their appearance on stage during the first semifinal.

“When you see Ukraine, during the first semifinal, take the stage, in front of 10,000 people standing screaming, with tears in their eyes …”, so evoked on BFMTV Michele the singerwhich presents Eurovision in Turin.
