Vivalá launches Adventure TBC in Lençóis Maranhenses

Vivalá Turismo Sustentável in Brazil is expanding its destinations and experience types and has just arrived at a new conservation unit, Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, its eighth reserve in its portfolio. The park is located 370 km from the capital São Luís in Maranhão. The destination is the company’s first community-based adventure tourism experience and has a super-exclusive debut with only 26 seats available in 2022.

The new expedition, much awaited by travelers, will take place in July, from 16 to 22, and in September, from 3 to 9. The co-founder and executive director of Vivalá, Daniel Cabrera, carried out the technical visit and states that it was one of the best experiences i ever had. “The expedition is simply amazing, one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my life. The landscape is lush. The oases are breathtaking, it feels like being in a movie or in the sky itself. I wish everyone could live this experience ”.

The seven-day itinerary begins in São Luís, passes through Barreirinhas, the village of Atins, the oases of Baixa Grande and Queimada dos Britos, and ends in the communities of Betânia and Santo Amaro on a 40 km crossing, divided into three days, as well as kayaking 15km along the Rio Alegre on one last day. “The crossing is done in a place so beautiful, so special, that I was very surprised not only to have endured the entire crossing, but also to have had a lot of fun along the way. The uninterrupted wind on your face, the wonderful sunrises, the jumps in the lagoons and the thoughts that come and go, make you go much further ”explains Cabrera.

Queimada dos Britos and Baixa Grande are located in the Primitive Zone, where the two vegetation patches of sandbanks form real oases and are incredible places to spend the night in the few houses of the natives of the region. “When the travelers arrive, we chat at the table over a nice lunch based on homemade food. After the meal, we continue the conversation, we rest in the hammocks, we talk about our life and we want to know more about the life of the travelers who are with us. More at night, we go out to see the sunset every day before dinner, it’s our way of life. At night, we circle and tell the stories here. We are very happy, because people are getting to know our place, ”says Joina Garcia, a native of the region and one of the very few people who receives visitors from the region.

In Baixa Grande there are only 7 families, while in Queimada dos Britos there are 30 families, the place is extremely exclusive, very special. Therefore, the experience of talking, interacting and spending the night with the residents is unique and quite enriching. “We stayed in the houses, slept in hammocks, ate first-class homemade food and learned more about the customs and beliefs of these communities in the middle of the dunes,” explains Daniel, from Vivalá.

Breathtaking adventures and scenery

The last part of the route begins in the community of Betânia and ends in Santo Amaro, after having traveled the 15 km along the Rio Preguiça, by kayak to seal a unique interaction with Brazilian nature with a golden key. “Kayaking is very pleasant. We provide the kayaks, give some training, and send a local community guide, accustomed to the stretch to escort travelers. The duration of the descent by kayak is three or four hours, passing through historical stops, bathing in the lagoons and enjoying the splendid landscapes. We want more people to have this experience and get to know Betânia, ”says Walisson Santos, who welcomes travelers with his family to Betânia.

“The sunrises and sunsets there were just amazing. The orange sky, the wind that beats all the time, caressing her skin and combing every strand of sand on the dunes. The experience is transcendental and makes you remember your whole life, looking to the past and the future, finding yourself in the present. Closing the expedition along the Rio Alegre in a kayak seals a transformative experience “, recalls the co-founder and executive director of Vivalá.

Lencois Maranhenses National Park

Lençóis Maranhenses National Park is considered the largest dune field in Brazil and contemplates an absolutely unique landscape by mixing its dunes with fresh and crystal clear water lagoons. Conservation Unit (UC), is officially registered as Marina Costiera, but it is also an area of the Cerrado, influenced by the Caatinga and the Amazon.

The fauna of the park is exuberant because it is based on the meeting of the three biomes, one of the few places in the country where this occurs. UC has unique species, such as the Pininga (Trachemys adiutrix), a desert tortoise that is endemic to Lençóis and is currently under threat of extinction. One of our biggest goals is natural immersion, environmental awareness and the protection of Brazilian biodiversity through our travelers.

The value of the shipment per person starts from R $ 4.410 in cash or 8 installments of R $ 612.50 on the credit card. Air tickets to the meeting point in São Luís and personal purchases are not included. For more information, go to the link
